Police Shoot At Vehicle After Driver Tries To Run Down Officer

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was arrested early Tuesday after he tried to hit a police officer with his vehicle, prompting an officer to open fire in the Lakeview neighborhood on the North Side, police said.

Officers were called about a battery in progress in the 3000 block of North Clybourn Avenue at 2:10 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

A male driver tried to run down an officer with a vehicle while driving away from the scene, Alfaro said. Police fired shots at the vehicle, but nobody was struck.

Responding officers then stopped the vehicle and took the driver into custody, Alfaro said. A pellet gun was recovered from inside the vehicle.
