UPDATE: Toddler Found Alone In Englewood Placed With Family Friend
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A little boy found alone Friday morning on an Englewood sidewalk has been identified and placed with a family friend, while the child's mother was being questioned by authorities.
Someone recognized the little boy's picture on Facebook and called relatives, CBS 2 has learned.
The 2-year-old boy was abandoned at 65th and Stewart Friday morning. Jerome Glenn says he peeked out his window and saw a man in a beige SUV drop the baby off outside just steps from his home.
He said the driver "threw the baby's gym shoes at the baby and pulled off."
Glenn called police while two women comforted the baby. He did not get a license plate.
The little boy was taken to be checked out at St. Bernard Hospital but appeared to be OK, CBS 2's Courtney Gousman reports.
St. Bernard Hospital tells WBBM that Chicago Police state child-welfare officials interviewed the toddler's mother. Police said the child later was placed with a family friend, and the state Department of Children and Family Services initiated a "safety plan" for the boy.
