Police Searching For Three Suspects In Wauconda Shooting
(CBS) -- Wauconda police hope security and red light cameras are able to help investigators find the three men responsible for shooting a man in the chest Sunday night.
Wauconda Police Chief Patrick Yost says a child answered the door about 8:30 last night to Apartment 4, a 2nd floor apartment at 105 South Main Street, which is right next to the Wauconda Village Hall.
Chief Yost says three young men believed to be in their early 20s burst through the door.
He says the victim's girlfriend and her children, ages 7, 10 and 14, barricaded themselves in another room while the victim and the home invaders argued. A couple of minutes later, the chief says, the 26-year old boyfriend was shot in the chest and the three attackers left and drove away in a dark colored car.
Chief Yost says he believes this was a targeted attack.
"There's no reason for us to believe this was a random act. They likely knew each other," the chief says.
Chief Yost says the victim had through and through bullet wounds chest-to-back and is expected to be okay. He says the victim is in good condition but is sedated so police haven't been able to talk to him. The chief says the bullet did not hit any vital organs or arteries.
Police say, right now, they don't know what the argument was about.
Chief Yost hopes security cameras from the village hall or red light cameras at Main and Rt. 176 and Rt. 176 and Rt. 12 might be helpful in tracking down suspects.
