Police Searching For Suspects After Riverdale Woman Robbed, Tied Up

(CBS) -- For the first time, a south suburban woman talks about the morning a man broke into her home, tied her up and robbed her.

CBS 2's Mai Martinez reports the victim is extremely shaken up. She says the suspects stole not only her money, but her sense of security.

Riverdale Police say the thief knocked on doors in Riverdale Sunday morning. When no one answered at one home, the man crawled in through an open window thinking the house was empty, but it wasn't. The home owner asked to not be identified.

"I saw a man standing in my bedroom doorway and he's like, 'yeah, you know what this is. Just Shut up. Give me the money'," she said.

She handed over her cash, but he wasn't satisfied.

"He said well I'm going to tie you up. He looked around, found an extension cord, tied me up. Told me to sit on the floor and stay there and don't move for an hour," she said.

The victim says she feared that she was going to be assaulted or killed.

Riverdale Police say the man stole the woman's bank card and used it at a gas station, which surveillance video shows it happened at 11:03 a.m.

35 minutes later, cameras at a Chase Bank captured images of another man using the woman's ATM card. He was wearing a distinctive jacket or sweatshirt which appears to show an image of earth shot from outer space.

The victim says she doesn't know either man, but has a message for the one who came into her home.

"I hope that nobody does to your mother or grandmother what you did to me," she said.

Riverdale Police believe the men are likely from the area. If you recognize either man or know anything about the crime, you're asked to call deputy chief Rocky Graziano directly at 708-446-4734.
