Police Searching For Clues In Murders Of Deacon, Guitar Player
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police, Cook County Crime Stoppers and members of two murder victims' families went door-to-door in the South Side Jackson Park Highlands neighborhood looking for clues, reports WBBM's Bob Roberts.
Both shootings occurred before dawn December 19. Church deacon Willie Cooper was shot first as he waited to give a friend a ride to work. Three blocks to the north and 40 minutes later, bluesman Eric "Guitar" Davis was shot as he sat in his car.
Cooper's fiancée, Mamie Washington, says until someone speaks up, the bloodshed will continue.
"We pay taxes. We pay bills. We work. We're responsible individuals and these individuals do nothing and they are allowed to run the community," said Washington.
Mike Davis says he misses his brother who toured the world – only to be shot outside his home:
"He worked every day," said Davis. "He took care of his kids. He loved his kids. He was doing the right thing and they took his life."
Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for the tip that leads to an arrest and conviction.
