Police Say Home-Based Pot Growing Operation Largest In Harvey's History

(CBS) -- Police in Harvey have found the biggest home-based pot growing operation in that south suburb's history, reports WBBM's Nancy Harty.

Neighbors told the mayor they thought the home at 152nd and Honore might be a grow house. When a domestic disturbance call came from the residence, Harvey police already had it under surveillance, according to city spokesman Sean Howard.

Howard says once inside, police discovered six foot tall plants and about 250 pounds processed pot.

"We saw a complete ventilation and cultivation operation equipped with music, sound effects, lighting," Howard said. "It was almost as if we were in Colorado at a licensed cultivation center."

Howard says police arrested a 45-year-old man and are preparing to charge him with unlawful production, manufacturing and delivering cannabis within 1,000 feet from a school.

The domestic situation involved two other people and was resolved without arrest.
