Police: Red Line Sexual Assault Claim Unfounded

(CBS) -- Police are now saying a woman's claim that she was sexually assaulted on a CTA train is unfounded, reports WBBM's Mike Krauser.

The 55-year-old woman told police she was sexually assaulted on a Red Line train near the Wilson stop in the Uptown neighborhood at about 11 p.m. on Tuesday.

She said the man had a knife and she checked herself into Mercy Hospital where police were called.
Police now say after investigating her claims, the fact that she kept changing her story and the absence of any video evidence, they don't believe it ever happened.

It is unclear if she will face charges of false reporting.
