Police Recover Several Paintings Stolen At Art Fair

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Earlier this week, we told you about a Chicago area artist who'd lost six paintings to thieves at an East Lansing, Mich., art fair.

Police in East Lansing say this was not the work of a ring of art thieves.

"We're a college town. There are a lot of liquor establishments, alcohol establishments and bars down there. And we've got three suspects in this," East Lansing Police Lieutenant Scott Wriggelsworth said.

"They had been downtown that night, and traveling home they made some bad decisions and went into some of these art booths and stole three different artists' art."

Wriggelsworth says police looked at some security video which showed the suspects enter and exit the booths.

He says police have recovered six paintings - some seized from homes, some handed over to police - including five stolen from the booth of Chicago area artist Bala Thiagarajan.

Five other paintings stolen from the art fair are still missing.
