Police: Pedestrian Killed In Northwest Side Crash

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Charges are pending against the driver of a vehicle involved in a Northwest Side crash that left a nearby pedestrian dead.

Lida Xhelo, 62, was standing in the 5900 block of West Belmont Avenue about 6:40 p.m. when two vehicles crashed near her, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Xhelo, of the 6000 block of West Eddy, was also struck and taken to Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 7:03 p.m., authorities said. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

A driver of one of the two vehicles involved in the crash was taken into custody and charges were pending early Wednesday, police said.
