Police: One Person Killed In Mundelein Car Wreck

MUNDELEIN, Ill. (STMW) -- A man was killed and three other people injured in a two-car crash Saturday afternoon in northwest suburban Mundelein, police said.

A 49-year-old man driving a Toyota sedan southbound on Midlothian Road lost control of his car near Wortham Drive about 4:30 p.m., Lake County Sgt. Sara Balmes said.

The Toyota veered into the northbound lanes of Midlothian, where it was struck by a silver BMW, Balmes said.

The 49-year-old was dead at the scene of the crash, she said. The Lake County Coroner's office could not immediately confirm the death Sunday and his identity was withheld by police.

A man and woman, both 40, and a 6-year-old girl in the BMW all were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with non-life-threatening injuries and later released, Balmes said.

Police shut down traffic on Midlothian Road for about four hours as the scene was cleared, Mundelein Cmdr. Gary DuHamel said.

No charges or citations have been issued as Lake County Sheriff's deputies investigate.
