Police: Oak Lawn Man Dead After Boating Accident Near Fox Lake

CHICAGO (STMW) -- An Oak Lawn man died after a boating accident Monday evening in Pistakee Lake near northwest suburban Fox Lake, police said.

The incident happened about 5 p.m. at a pier at a private residence in the 35000 block of Marine Drive, according to a statement from the Lake County sheriff's office.

The 57-year-old man had been boating with another man, also from Oak Lawn, who went inside a nearby home after they tied up the boat, sheriff's police said.

When the other man returned about 10 minutes later, he could not see the 57-year-old who had stayed in the boat, police said. He found him a short time later floating facedown.

The man pulled him from the water and yelled for help while a neighbor called 911, police said.

The victim was taken to Centegra McHenry Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

A representative from the McHenry County coroner's office could be reached to confirm the death Monday night.

The Lake County Sheriff's office's Technical Crash Investigations Unit and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources are looking into what happened.
