Police: Man With Gun Tried To Kidnap Two Kids In Hermosa

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man with a gun tried to lure two children into his SUV Sunday night in the Hermosa neighborhood on the Northwest Side, police said.

The children — ages 6 and 7 — were in the 2000 block of North Tripp Avenue about 8:30 p.m. when a man driving a white SUV approached and tried to talk to them, according to the community alert from Area North detective.

He pulled out a handgun, but the children ran to safety, police said.

The suspect is described as a man between 20 and 29 years old, wearing a green hooded sweatshirt and black pants. His white SUV had black tape on the windows, police said.

Police are advising parents not to let children walk to school alone and to call 911 to report any suspicious people or vehicles in the neighborhood.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call detectives at (312) 744-8200.
