Police: Man Shot And Killed In West Garfield Park

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was shot to death Wednesday night in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, police said.

Witnesses told police they heard shots and saw a man lying on the ground about 10:30 p.m. in the 700 block of South Springfield Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said, citing preliminary information.

The man, 52, had been shot in the chest and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, Gaines said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office could not immediately confirm the death early Thursday.
