Police: Man Robbed 3 Taxi Drivers At Gunpoint

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man robbed three taxi drivers at gunpoint at various places in the Loop area Wednesday night, prompting Chicago Police to issue a community alert.

The robberies occurred about 6:40 p.m. in the 400 block of South Clinton; about 7:20 p.m. in the 500 block of South Clinton; and about 8 p.m. in the 200 block of South Dearborn, according to police.

In each case, a man hailed a taxi and asked to be driven to an intersection near a CTA train station, police said. Just before getting out of the taxi, he pulled out a black pistol and demanded cash or the driver's cellphone, police said.

After robbing the drivers, the man likely boarded a CTA train to get away, police said.

The man was described as black, between 20 and 25 years old. He wore a dark hat, sunglasses, black pants and a black jacket with white lettering, police said.

Anyone with information on the robberies is asked to call Area Central detectives at (312) 747-8382.
