UPDATED: 3/29/15 2:01 p.m.

(STMW) -- A man was shot and critically injured on Saturday morning in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side.

Officers responding to a call of shots fired about 9:15 a.m. near 88th and Cottage Grove found the 26-year-old on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head about 9:15 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Janel Sedevic said.

He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where remained in "very grave condition," Sedevic said. Police initially said the man was pronounced dead but corrected that information on Sunday.
