Police: Man Fatally Shot In Chatham

(STMW) -- A man was fatally shot Saturday evening in the South Side Chatham neighborhood, police said.

Officers responding to a call of a person shot at 5:08 p.m. found the 18-year-old unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the head on a sidewalk in the 800 block of East 87th Place, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The Cook County medical examiner's office could not confirm the fatality early Sunday.

A police source said the shooting appears to be gang-related.
