Police: Man Dead After He Runs Across I-94

CHICAGO (STMW) --A man is dead after he ran across Interstate 94 and was hit by a car early Sunday on the Far South Side.

About 3 a.m., a 36-year-old man was heading north on I-94 in a 2007 Ford Taurus when a 22-year-old man ran across the roadway near 120th Street and was hit, Illinois State Police said in a statement.

The 22-year-old was dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. His identity was withhheld pending notification of family members.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

State police are investigating why the man was running across the expressway.

The far right two lanes on northbound I-94 were closed were closed for more than three hours as crews cleared the scene, police said. All lanes had reopened to traffic by about 6:20 a.m.
