Police: Man Caught Using Fake Identities Congratulates Arresting Officer

(CBS) -- Riverside police say a man who admitted to using false identities for the past decade actually congratulated the officer who arrested him, reports WBBM's Mike Krauser.

A Riverside police officer pulled over the man for having an expired license registration and he handed the officer a Mexican ID. When he ran the name, he found the man's Illinois license was suspended for DUI.

They ran his prints and found the name he gave them was a fake and that he'd used numerous false identities in the past. He had three Illinois drivers licenses under different names, each suspended for DUI as well as warrants for drug possession, felony DUI and escape. They eventually learned his real name was 37-year-old Jose O. Trujillo of Lake Villa.

Riverside Police Chief Tom Weitzel says Trujillo said numerous arrests he was not fingerprinted and police trusted who he was. Weitzel says Trujillo congratulated the arresting officer.
