Police Fatally Shoot Man At Merrillville Car Dealership

MERRLLVILLE, Ind. (CBS) -- A police officer fatally shot a knife-wielding man at a car dealership on Wednesday.

The shooting happened at Art Hill Ford dealership, 901 W. Lincoln Hwy, in Merrillville.

Employees there said a man came into the dealership and demanded keys to a car. He then pulled out a knife and started chasing people in the showroom.

The man then ran outside and ran around the building. He then tried to re-enter the dealership but employees locked the doors and blocked them.

The man then got into a car and pulled off the lot onto a service road in front of the dealership. At that point, police showed up and shot the man.

The man was transported to Southlake Methodist Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
