Suspect in custody following hours-long standoff after shooting up home and car in Aurora, Illinois

CBS News Chicago

A suspect was in custody Wednesday morning, after police in west suburban Aurora said he shot up a vehicle and a home overnight, leading to an hours-long standoff.

Around 1:30 a.m., officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert of gunfire in the 100 block of South Fifth Street, and located a vehicle and home that had been struck by gunfire. No injuries were reported.

A short time later, a vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting was found in the 300 block of South Kendall Street, and several people fled from the car. One suspect barricaded himself inside a nearby home.

Neighbors were asked to avoid the immediate area while negotiators and tactical officers tried to convince the suspect to come out.

That suspect was taken into custody several hours later, police said. No charges have been announced.
