Police Investigate West Garfield Park Fire As Arson

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A family was forced out of its home in West Garfield Park overnight, and police said it might have been intentionally set.

Firefighters responded to the blaze around 1:50 a.m. Wednesday at a two-flat in the 4100 block of West Maypole Avenue.

It's unclear how many people were inside the home at the time, but authorities said one person suffered a minor injury. That person refused treatment at the scene.

Officials said it appeared the fire started on a lower floor of the home, but the Chicago Fire Department was not releasing many details as of Wednesday morning.

Police said the fire was under investigation as arson.

Residents were seen inside the home after the fire, collecting what was left of their belongings.

The Red Cross was assisting the people who live at the home.
