Police Investigate Two Robberies Near Magnificent Mile

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was robbed early Wednesday just off the Magnificent Mile, a few blocks from the scene of another robbery attempt a few minutes later.

In the first incident, around 2 a.m., a 35-year-old man was walking on Chestnut Street near Michigan Avenue near the John Hancock Center, when two men attacked him from behind, and stole his backpack, wallet, and cell phone.

The victim was taken to Saint Joseph Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

A few minutes later, a man was sleeping on a bench near the corner of Fairbanks Court and Huron Street, when two men tried to rob him. Police said the man woke up as the suspects were going through his pockets. He was not injured, and the suspects got away with nothing.

No one was in custody for either attack. Police said they are not sure the two are connected, as they do not have good descriptions of the suspects to compare.
