Elderly Driver Dies After Dump Truck Rolls Over On I-57

MARKHAM, Ill. (STMW) -- A man in his 70s died after the dump truck he was driving rolled over Saturday morning in the south suburbs.

The dump truck carrying gravel rolled over about 8:55 a.m. Saturday in the southbound lanes of Interstate 57 near 159th Street in Markham, Illinois State Police said. The driver, believed to be in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:49 a.m., authorities said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office had not yet identified the man Sunday morning.

Parts of the interstate were shut down for five hours after the crash, state police said. All lanes north of 159th were shut down until about 2 p.m. Saturday.

An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office confirmed the death, but did not have additional information.
