Girl Dead, Man Hospitalized After West Englewood Shooting

(STMW) -- A 16-year-old girl was killed and another man was wounded in a drive-by shooting early Saturday in West Englewood.

The shooting happened about 12:50 a.m. in the 7200 block of South Laflin Street, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said. The girl was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene, Greer said. The man, 20, was shot in the back and taken to Christ Medical Center where his condition had stabilized.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office identified the girl as Shaquise Buckner of the 1400 block of West 72nd Street.

An autopsy Friday determined she died from a gunshot wound to the head, and her death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner's office said.
