Police: Father Slammed Baby's Head On Floor, Bit Cops

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Police are saying a man struck his girlfriend and then grabbed his 1-year-old baby by her ankles and slammed her head twice on the floor Sunday in the Logan Square neighborhood.

The domestic incident occurred at 10:40 p.m. in the 2800 block of North Spaulding Avenue, said 14th District Sgt. Gerald Bremon.
The 21-year-old man was arguing with his girlfriend when it turned physical and said "we're all going to die," police said. He picked up his 1-year-old daughter and threw her to the ground, slamming her head twice on the floor.

Police who arrived on scene attempted to detain the man, but he "became combative" and bit both officers, Bremon said.

The infant suffered two skull fractures and was taken to Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago in critical condition, Bremon added.

"It was a domestic dispute," Bremon said. "The girlfriend refused treatment."

The suspect was taken to an area hospital for a self-inflicted wound, but was later released and is now in police custody, Bremon said. Charges are pending against him Monday morning.

Area North detectives are investigating.
