Police Fatally Shoot Suspect In Hammond

HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) - Police in northwestern Indiana say a man has died after being wounded in an officer-related shooting.

Hammond Police Chief Brian Miller says the shooting happened Sunday night after officers were called to a domestic disturbance that involved a stabbing.

John E. Brown II, 44, was shot in the 6600 block of Ohio Street in Hammond and was later pronounced dead at 9:46 p.m. at St. Catherine's Hospital in East Chicago, the Lake County Coroner's office said in a release.

Miller tells The Times of Munster (http://bit.ly/1mnSug5 ) that the man was shot by a Hammond officer in a neighborhood on the city's southeast side. Information about the stabbing victim wasn't immediately released.

Miller says the investigation of the shooting has been turned over state police because it involved one of his department's officers.
