Police Fatally Shoot Dog After Officers Say It Charged At Them

(CBS) -- Police officers responding to a report of an armed person fatally shot a dog after officers say it came at them Sunday morning on the Southeast Side.

The dog was with a man that police say fit the description of someone who was seen entering a backyard at 95th and Ewing around 10 a.m. with a gun, according to police.

The officers ordered the man to tie up the dog and the man refused and released the dog, police said.

The dog charged at the officers who shot the dog once, killing it, police said. The suspect armed with a gun was apprehended and no officers were injured, police said.
