Police Discover Loaded AK-47, Crack Cocaine During Home-Monitoring Check On West Side
(CBS) -- Cook County Sheriff's officers doing a home-monitoring check on Chicago's West Side found an assault rifle and drugs in the home of a man who is now calling home the county jail, reports WBBM's Mike Krauser.
Investigators with the Electronic Monitoring unit were sent to the home of Michael Rivers, 23, on what appeared to be a curfew violation. Rivers was home when they arrived and it was determined he did leave earlier but had a legitimate reason to do so.
The officers wanted to check the monitoring unit and that is when things went south for Rivers. The Sheriff's Department says there was a plate containing crack cocaine in plain view in the dining room. Then the officers found marijuana and two loaded guns, an AK-47 assault rifle and a .357 revolver.
Rivers was arrested and charged with unlawful possession by a felon, possession of more than 15 grams of cocaine and possession of cannabis.
