Police: Des Plaines Man Stabbed His Father During NY Eve Fight

(STMW) -- A 20-year-old northwest suburban man is facing felony charges after stabbing his father in the chest when they got into an argument while drinking on New Year's Eve, according to police.

John H. Reardon, 20, of the 900 block of East Rose Ave. in Des Plaines stabbed 62-year-old James Reardon, of the same address, about 9:45 p.m. on Dec. 31, according to a report from Des Plaines police.

The father and son were drinking in the home they share when John Reardon got angry and pushed his father down a flight of stairs, according to police.

As the older Reardon, who suffered a cut to the back of his head, tried to get away, John Reardon grabbed a knife and stabbed him in the upper chest, according to police.

After seeing what he had done, the younger Reardon tried to help his father by applying pressure to the wound, then called 911 to report having attacked his father, according to police.

James Reardon, was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with non-life-threatening injuries, while John Reardon was arrested on felony counts of aggravated domestic battery, and aggravated battery to a victim over 60, according to police.

He was ordered held on a $90,000 bond, and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Jan. 24 at the Skokie courthouse.
