Police: Body Found In Woods Near Gompers Park, Suicide Suspected

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man found dead Sunday afternoon in woods near Gompers Park on the North Side is believed to have committed suicide, according to authorities.

The adult male, whose exact age was not immediately known, was found by his son in a secluded area of the Irene C. Hernandez Woods, according to a spokeswoman for Forest Preserves of Cook County police. It appeared he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man was found in a secluded area away from the woods' picnic area, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed that someone from the agency was dispatched to the location about 1:55 p.m. after a call that a person was found dead.

The medical examiner's office declined to provide additional information.
