Police Board President Lori Lightfoot Says CPD Must Adapt To Changing World
(CBS) -- The head of the Chicago Police Board says the Police Department must face some hard truths if it's going to restore the public trust it lost in the midst of some recent shooting cases, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore.
Police Board President Lori Lightfoot told the City Club of Chicago that all 39 applicants for police superintendent have been asked how they would get good cops to report bad cops that they may work with every day.
"Those officers who are doing their jobs the right way must be responsible, not only for themselves, but for their partners and colleagues who have gone astray," she said.
A reporter asked what about police officers who feel their jobs are changing and that they're being treated unfairly?
"I don't mean to be flip, but I guess my initial response is welcome to the real world," Lightfoot said. "All of us who are out there, all the people that are struggling in jobs that stay in jobs, the world is changing and we need to adapt and change with it."
Still, she agrees a lot is being asked of police officers and that must be accounted for.
