Police: Aurora University Student Sexually Abused Fellow Student

AURORA, Ill. (STMW) -- An Aurora University student faces sexual abuse charges after he allegedly forced himself on another student early Saturday in the west suburb.

Kelly Moore, 22, was charged with criminal sexual abuse and unlawful restraint, a statement from Aurora police said.

Moore was at a meet-and-greet early Saturday with some other students at Centennial Hall, a school residence hall, police said. About 1 a.m. Saturday, a 19-year-old woman joined the group in the lobby and decided to walk back to her dorm room about an hour later, police said. Moore offered to escort her.

When they reached her room, Moore asked if he could see the inside. Moore went in while the woman stood in the hallway holding the door open, police said. Moore "suddenly picked her up," causing the door to close behind her, police said. He then sexually assaulted her in the room despite her attempts to break free, police said.

Campus police were notified of the incident about noon Saturday. They contacted Aurora police, and detectives arrested Moore about 6:30 p.m. that night.

Moore was ordered held on a $40,000 bond Sunday morning, police said. His next court date wasn't immediately known.
