Police: 14-Year-Old Boy Stole Car With Elderly Woman In Back Seat

(STMW) -- A 14-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday after a carjacking in north suburban Park Ridge.

About 6:50 p.m., the owners of the stolen vehicle entered a store at 901 Touhy Ave. and left their relative, an 88-year-old woman, in the backseat, according to a statement from Park Ridge police. They immediately called police when they came back out and found the vehicle missing.

Park Ridge police followed a lead to West Belmont Avenue and North Harlem Avenue in Chicago, where they spotted the stolen vehicle, authorities said. With help from Chicago Police, they pulled the vehicle over in the 4800 block of North Austin and arrested a 14-year-old boy.

Police said the boy took the 88-year-old woman home after stealing the car.

Charges are pending against him, police said.
