Police: 14-Year-Old Boy Slain In Drive-By

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A teenage boy was shot to death in the South Side Woodlawn neighborhood on Wednesday night, police said.

About 8:20 p.m., the 14-year-old boy was walking with two other people in the 6100 block of South Vernon Avenue when a white van drove up and someone inside fired shots at the group before driving away, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

The teenager suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was dead at the scene, Alfaro said.

No one else was injured in the shooting, which appeared to be gang-related, police said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office could not immediately confirm the death as of 10:30 p.m.

No one is in custody as Area Central detectives investigate.
