Police: 1 Killed, 1 Wounded In University Village Shooting

(STMW) -- A man was killed and another wounded late Friday in the University Village neighborhood on the Near West Side, according to Chicago Police.

The men, both 21, were standing on a sidewalk in the 1200 block of West Grenshaw about 11:45 p.m. when someone in a dark-colored van fired shots, police said.

One man was shot in the chest and abdomen, and the other in the arm. Friends drove them to Stroger Hospital, where the man with the chest wound was pronounced dead, and the other's condition was stabilized, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner could not immediately confirm the fatality.
