Police: 1 Killed, 1 Critically Injured In Belmont Cragin Shooting

(STMW) -- A woman was killed and a man critically injured in a Belmont Cragin neighborhood shooting Sunday morning on the Northwest Side, police said.

About 6:30 a.m., the 34-year-old woman and a man thought to be in his 20s were walking in the 2700 block of North Lavergne when a someone with a gun got out of a car and opened fire, police said.

The woman was struck in the head and the man was shot repeatedly, police said.

They were both taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where the woman later died, according to police. The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

The man was in "grave" condition Sunday afternoon, police said.

Police said the shooting may have been gang-related.
