Police: 1 Dead, 1 Hurt When Stolen Car Crashes In South Lawndale

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 17-year-old boy was killed and another seriously injured early Wednesday when the stolen car they were in crashed after a police chase in the South Lawndale neighborhood on the Southwest Side, police said.

The teens crashed the stolen car into a concrete wall about 1:45 a.m. in the 3200 block of West 32nd Street, said police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines.

The car crashed after officers ended a pursuit, Gaines said.

A 17-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene and another 17-year-old boy was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, Gaines said. No police officers were injured.

It was not known whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

The police Major Accidents Investigations Unit is investigating.
