Plaque Honoring MIAs, POWs To Be Rededicated At O'Hare Oasis

(CBS) -- The now-closed Des Plaines Oasis had displayed a plaque dedicated to 19 servicemen who had been listed as missing in action or were prisoners of war. Thursday, that plaque is being rededicated at another location.

Among the 19 names on the plaque: Private James Story. From Birmingham, Alabama - but his address of record was in Berwyn, Illinois.

"He was driving a truck in South Vietnam," said Ryan Yantis, apokesman for the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs. "He was carrying artillery projectiles. And whether it was a rocket attack or a mortar strike... the truck simply disintegrated in a huge blast."

Yantis says Private Story's remains were never found.

The date was June 13, 1969.

Private Story's name, and the names of 18 others, are on the plaque that's now being relocated to the O'Hare Tollway Oasis and the Tollway and the Department of Veterans Affairs are dedicating a new monument to honor all POWs and MIAs.
