Planning Agency Working On New Regional Study For Chicago Area

(CBS) -- What will the Chicago area look like in the next decade? The regional agency responsible for coordinating dreams into reality is starting to put together a new plan, reports WBBM's Bernie Tafoya.

Joe Szabo, the executive director of the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning, says that for the organization's On To 2050 plan, city and suburban leaders and citizens should start thinking big about what they'd like their communities to look like in the coming years.

"If you go back and take a look at the Burnham Plan, only 10 percent ultimately got implemented and yet those were very meaningful improvements that are now like a showcase for our region," Szabo said.

One recommendation from CMAP's last 10-year plan is just getting going, a push for managed toll lanes on the Stevenson Expressway.
