Planned Parenthood to close four Illinois clinics

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Planned Parenthood announced Wednesday that is closing four clinics in Illinois.

One of the health centers is the Englewood Health Center at 6059 S. Ashland Ave. The others are located in Ottawa, Decatur, and Bloomington in Central Illinois.

Appointments will be available at the four clinics through March. After that, patients will be directed elsewhere. The Planned Parenthood clinics in the Roseland neighborhood, Waukegan, Champaign, Peoria, and Springfield are expected to meet patient demand.

None of the clinics that are closing provided abortion services.

Planned Parenthood of Illinois said in a news release that it is facing financial shortfall due to the rising number of patients, growing health care costs, and an uncertain patient care landscape under the new Trump administration.

The organization also cited the need to create a sustainable after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022.

Planned Parenthood has not said how many workers will be affected.
