Plainfield Central Plans Vietnam Battle Re-Enactment

CHICAGO (CBS) -- If you're near Plainfield Central High School tomorrow and you hear what sounds like gunfire, officials say you should not be alarmed.

There's going to be a Vietnam War re-enactment over several class periods tomorrow at the school.

District 202 spokesman Tom Hernandez says it's being put on by alumnus Eric Percy who has done this program for years but re-enacted World War II.

Hernandez says Percy will talk to the students for 20-25 minutes and then with other re-enactors dressed in appropriate uniforms will stage a battle and talk about different equipment used by different sides.

There will be gunfire, but blanks only will be used. Hernandez says every time these war re-enactments are put on at Plainfield Central High School, invariably, people call with concern.

"No live ammunition, but they do use blanks which are very loud," he says.
