Pizza Delivery Driver Seriously Wounded In Robbery, Shooting

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police were searching for the gunman who shot a pizza delivery driver in the head during a robbery attempt on the Northwest Side early Monday.

A 31-year-old man was in serious condition after he was shot outside the Pavilion Apartments in the 5400 block of North East River Road around 12:20 a.m. while delivering a pizza.

A friend of the victim waited in the car while the driver delivered the pizza.

Two men walked up to the car and announced a robbery as the 31-year-old man was walking back to the car. One of the suspects pulled out a gun and shot him in the head.

The two robbers then fled the scene without taking any money.

"It's a shock to me," one neighbor said. "It's just crazy, because everybody waits outside. I mean, moving in, just hanging out with their kids. Everybody just hangs out on the outside. … Mind-blowing what can happen, you know?"

The passenger in the car was not injured.

The driver was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was listed in serious condition Monday morning.

Descriptions of the suspects were not available.
