Pit Bull Attacks Mail Carrier In Carpentersville

(STMW) -- A mail carrier was taken to a hospital Thursday after a dog jumped through a screen door and attacked her in northwest suburban Carpentersville.

Authorities were called to Alameda Drive just after 12:45 p.m. and found the 50-year-old woman with lacerations to her arms and head, according to Carpentersville police.

The pit bull's owner said the dog broke through a screen door to get outside, the statement said. The owner then rushed outside and found the woman on the ground.

The mail carrier was taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin for treatment, police said.

Animal control officials caught the dog and took him to Dundee Animal Hospital for observation, police said.

Police continue to investigate, and have not yet determined whether the dog's owner will be charged.
