Worker Killed When Vaulted Sidewalk Collapses On Him In Heart Of Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS)-- A worker is dead after a sidewalk collapsed top of him in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood.
According to the Chicago Fire Department, a portion of a vaulted sidewalk collapsed on a worker at a site at 1816 W. 23rd St., near Wood Street, around 11:15 a.m. The CFD said the site was at a residence that was below sidewalk level.

Firefighters brought in heavy equipment to remove the concrete rubble, but it was too late. The man died at the scene.

The accident was under investigation late Saturday.
