PhotoMath: App Solves Problems Using Your Phone Camera

By John Dodge

CHICAGO (CBS) -- For all the parents who have been forced to reach back into the deep recesses of their brains to help their children with pre-Algebra, there is now salvation.

For all the students who want to cheat study (yes, study!) better, let us show you the promised land.

Behold, PhotoMath.

PhotoMath is an app available for iPhone and Windows phones--an Andriod app is on the way in 2015.

The app scans a mathematical equation and gives you the answer, along with the steps used to solve the problem.

The app was tested on three basic algebra problems and it worked perfectly.

We tried it on a calculus problem, but then discovered that only certain math problems are supported, including arithmetic equations, fractions, square roots and basic linear equations.

The app developer, microblink, says it will continue to add more mathematical features.

The app was launched late last week and is now the third-most popular app in the Apple Store.
