Teen Dies Of Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound In Wilmette, Police Say

WILMETTE, Ill. (CBS) -- A gunshot wound that left a teenage boy dead in Wilmette late Monday turned out to be self-inflicted.

Wilmette police said at 5:27 p.m., they were called along with fire department units to the 1300 block of Chestnut Avenue for a person shot.

Police initially emphasized that there was no danger to the public. They then said the gunshot wound was self-inflicted.

The 15-year-old boy was taken to North Shore University Evanston Hospital pronounced dead there, police said.

Police were seen coming in and out of a large house on the quiet block.
