Dog Shot, Dog Owner Also Shot In Gun Fight In Crown Point, Indiana, Police Say

CROWN POINT, Ind. (CBS) -- A person was shot at a home in Crown Point, Indiana on Monday, in what police said was a gunfight that erupted after the assailant shot the victim's dog.

Around 3:30 p.m., Lake County, Indiana police were dispatched to the 6400 block of 109th Avenue in Crown Point after someone called and said neighbors were shooting at each other.

It turned out that the shootout happened after one of the neighbors shot the other's dog, police said. The dog did not survive.

The owner of the dog was also shot and suffered a gunshot wound to the head, police said. The dog owner was taken to Franciscan Health Crown Point hospital, while the suspected shooter was taken into custody, police said.

The incident remained under investigation Monday night.
