Person Shot Waiting To Take Driving Test In Chicago Heights

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A person waiting in line to take a driving test was shot in Chicago Heights Monday afternoon.

According to the Secretary of State's office, the offender walked up to the man, shot him and then fled on foot.

The facility was closed but has since reopened. Chicago Heights are investigating. The incident took place just after 1 p.m.

Authorities said it happened at 570 West 209th Street. Police said a 2018 four-door Hyundai was in a parking lot at the facility with one occupant. He is identified as 27-year-old Brian Walton of Harvey.

Walton was in the driver's seat and was found with a gunshot wound above his left hip. He was taken to Stroger Hospital.

After talking to the victim, police said it's believed the alleged shooter was in a dark colored vehicle. Police do not think it was a random act.
