Person Shot By Police In Calumet Heights

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago police shot a man who allegedly pointed a gun at officers after threatening to kill himself in the Calumet Heights neighborhood early Sunday.

Police were called to a home on the 1800 block of East 87th Street around 1 a.m., to assist paramedics with a man who was threatening to commit suicide.

When officers entered the home, they found a man holding a gun. Police said officers repeatedly told the man to drop the weapon, but he refused.

The man allegedly pointed the gun at police, prompting one officer to fire his service weapon. The officer shot the man in the leg.

The man was taken to the hospital, but his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

No officers were wounded.

Police said a weapon was recovered at the scene, and the officers involved were wearing body cameras.

The Independent Police Review Authority was investigating.
