Person Dies After Fall Into Silo At Industrial Plant

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A worker who fell into a silo with toxic material at an industrial plant on the South Side has died, according to fire officials.

The Chicago Fire Department says a person fell into a silo with toxic materials at Horsehead Corp., 2701 E. 114th St.

Rescue crews freed the person from the silo who was transported in extremely critical condition to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The silo was filled with cadmium, a toxic material.

Originally, the fire department reported the person was trapped in the Deep Tunnel.
